Our Work

The Collaborative Anthropology of Reproduction and the Environment (CARE) Lab in the School of Anthropology seeks to understand global trends in reproductive decision-making through the perspectives of young people in Tucson. Studies suggest that environmental climate anxiety is the main reason behind falling fertility rates; CARE asks if we can understand these “climates” in a plural manner that includes the political, social, and financial environments, among others. Using a collaborative anthropology approach, the CARE lab engages undergraduates, graduate students, and faculty to design and conduct qualitative, ethnographic research.

From Boomers to Doomers?

Recognizing the significance of these concerns, the study focuses on understanding how they shape the reproductive choices of BIPOC young adults.
